This guide basically boils down to: install fabric and some fabric mods, if you are not up for that another good quick and easy option that will majorly help your FPS is to just install optifine otherwise keep reading

first install fabric from here: this will put a new entry in your launcher

now for the mods, you put these in your .minecraft/mods folder. click installations then the folder icon to get to your .minecraft folder, then make and open the mods folder

put the following mods in there

    fabric-api (needed for other mods)
    sodium (fps performance fixes)
    lithium (general performance fixes)
    starlight (light engine re-write)
    krypton (network performance fixes)
    lazydfu (startup speed increase)
    hydrogen (more intense/dangerous performance fixes)
dynamic fps (allows your pc to not render minecraft in some situations)

    optional mods I like:
okzoomer (lets you zoom in with c key)
lambdynamiclights (holding torch lights up area around you)
mod menu (list and configure your mods)
worldeditcui (allows you to see your worldedit selection)
    rei (shows recipes and stuff)
    cloth config (needed for rei)

Just installing fabric and the performance mods should give you a pretty big fps benefit, as well as making sure your view distance is between 4 and 8. I also recommend checking for updates for these mods once a month or so

    other random tips
-texture packs? I have not really messed with FPS texture packs, so that would be up to you to search for
-laptop? if you have a graphics card in your laptop make sure java is set to use it!

if you want to go even more crazy and use ZGC for a faster java garbage collector, install java 15 from here and then set your client to use java 15 along with these flags
    -Xms3G -Xmx3G -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:+AlwaysPreTouch -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:-UseParallelGC -XX:-UseParallelOldGC -XX:-UseG1GC -XX:+UseZGC
if your computer has only 3 gb of ram or less you will obviously want to lower that Xms and Xmx number or your pc will crash. You should make it higher if you have more ram. It will look like this:

now go ahead and enjoy your buttery smooth minecraft
